Aaron Root is a designer based in Sydney, Australia.

He is VP of Design at Nearmap, where he started as the first designer in 2019. Nearmap builds an intelligent model of the world from aerial imagery, material samples, and the patterns they reveal. His work focuses on helping people interpret that model, coordinate judgement, and act.

This site is a journal about design, computation, orientation, and cognition. It explores the systems we think and act through, and how their design changes what people can see, understand, judge, and do.

He lives near the ocean with his wife Lauren and their son Edward.
